In My Head

It seems the Foos have rediscovered their sense of humor with this video for the next single Long Road to Ruin.

Dave plays an overly-sensitive actor on a 70s' hospital soap opera. Love the hair!

I had to post this because Dave and Taylor are featured in it. Foo Fighters were last week's musical guest on SNL.

The synthesized theme song will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, unfortunately.

People getting nailed in the face (even if it's not real)...just NEVER gets old for me!

I'm shamelessly taking this from Teri's blog...

Five Questions

What is the single best piece of advice you’ve ever been given, and who gave it?

Ha. I don’t take advice well…mostly because I’m the kind of person who likes to figure things out for herself. A few years back, I was taking a business management class online and had to read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz for the class discussion. This book blew me right out of the frickin’ water. So here are the four agreements (and yes, I’m cheating because I consider it all one “piece” of advice!):

Be impeccable with your word - Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
Don’t take anything personally - Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
Don’t make assumptions - Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
Always do your best - Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

What was the last thing you purchased for yourself, and what do you think you will purchase next?

I bought myself an automatic iced tea maker and love it. Yes, I’m a dork. My next major purchase will be either a mountain bike or satellite radio. Or both. Still not sure.

In your humble opinion, the Best! Invention! Ever! Is…

Modern plumbing. Gotta love it. I’m totally grateful for that every single day.

What makes Lori happy? What makes Lori sad?

I’m a fairly happy person, and I try to find joy in everything I do. Happiness is a choice, and it’s a brave choice, I think…it’s much easier to stay miserable and bitch about how unhappy you are than to consciously work at being happy. Don’t you think?

That being said, music makes me VERY, VERY happy, and I couldn’t imagine life without it. The internet makes me happy. My family and friends make me happy. Animals make me happy. Beautiful weather makes me happy. Reading a good book makes me happy. Writing makes me happy. Cooking, gardening, learning new things, working out, doing crossword puzzles, taking long walks…all very good stuff.

The older I get, the more I realize that material things don’t factor too much into the happiness equation. At least not for me.

Death of loved ones saddens me. Needless suffering. Child and animal abuse not only make me sad, but piss me the hell off, too. The news saddens me most of the time…I’ve voluntarily given that up for the moment…it’s just too much for me to handle.

What character on TV do you identify with most?

TV’s crap and I try to avoid it as much as I can, unless it’s educational. And let’s not broach the embarrassing topic of my American Idol addiction.

So I really couldn’t answer this question. Sorry!

I'm tagging anyone who wants to play...

Wentworth Miller, you've been ousted from my list of five!

...and been replaced by this guy...wooooohooooo....

Who you may recognize best as this guy:

Christ on a cracker...is he HOT or what??? I love a man who can rock a tux AND a codpiece equally well!

And through my considerable internet research, I have learned that not ONLY is Gerard Butler gorgeous, he is also witty, incredibly articulate, and SMART! My four favorite characteristics in a guy.

I'll leave you with one last photo...today's my 29 1/2 birthday, by the way...so I just consider this a half-birthday gift to myself!

Wonder what Dave thought of this?

I thought it was pretty damn hot. I just about wet myself when I realized what he was singing...

Well done, Purple One. Well done, indeed.

Just taking some time off, actually.

If you know me, then I'm sure you realize that the majority of the past two evenings for me was comprised of watching the debut of this season's American Idol.

But I did flip back and forth last night between AI and Armed and Famous on CBS. And I've decided, much to my surprise that I really quite like Jack Osbourne. He seems like he has his head on pretty damn straight, especially in his dealings with the junkies that he's assisted in arresting.

Go, Jack!

I am so fucking tired of these damn political campaign commercials. It's like one big smear-fest. Why doesn't anyone stick to the issues? Gah.

That is all.

Well, tomorrow I turn the big 2-9.

One of the best gifts I could possibly give myself is a post dedicated to the smoldering hotness of Wentworth Miller. So without further ado...

Went, that was so nice of you to fly all the way to Philadelphia from Dallas, where you're filming Prison Break, just for my birthday!

But how on earth did you manage to sneak into my living room without a key to my house?

Aw, Went. You didn't have to rob a bank to buy me a birthday gift! Just being able to stare at you for hours on end is enough for me.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Are you a Prison Break fan? This show is crazy good. Yes, it asks the viewer to suspend disbelief to an almost impossible extent, but it's really entertaining--every episode is a cliff-hanger. I even bought Season 1 on DVD and wasted an entire weekend watching all twenty-two episodes. No matter what I'm doing or where I am, I drop everything and plant myself in front of the TV every Monday night at 8 p.m. to watch my show.

While you may know that I am an ardent admirer of one Mr. Wentworth E. Miller III, you might be surprised to learn that his Michael Scofield is NOT my favorite character on the show.

The title of today's post may have tipped you off: I really love me some T-Bag, who is played to the hilt by the masterful Robert Knepper (of HBO's now-defunct Carnevale series). I find it disturbing, to say the least, that I am completely taken with this character. He is devastatingly sexy. Seductive. Animalistic. Grrr, baby! There's just something primal about him. He speaks to my baser side, I suppose. And I love it! I just try not to think about the fact that this character was in the slammer for murder, rape, and pedophilia. Instead, I concentrate on the swagger...the charm...the Alabama drawl.

So here is some random picture spam of my main man T-Bag:

So I've decided that I have a new celebrity object of desire. Keanu has been removed from my List of Five, replaced by this guy:

Helloooooooo, Wentworth Miller!

It's all Brian's fault. He made me watch Prison Break with him on Monday night. Now I'm hooked. So I guess that means he can't complain when I slobber all over the place during the show.

You might also recognize this hottie from a couple of Mariah Carey's recent videos ("It's Like That," and my personal favorite "We Belong Together," from whence I stole these screencaps).

Plus he's a Princeton alum, so he's got major smarts in addition to that pretty, pretty face.

Smoldering!

Damn Blogger. Hopefully it will let me post a nice little picture of the Hotness that is:

5. Chris Meloni -- late of Oz, best known for playing Detective Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU. This man SMOLDERS. I love how worked up he gets on SVU when he's interrogating sexual deviants. Plus, I've seen him naked (full frontal baby!) on Oz almost as often as I've seen my husband naked. Oooooh, yeah.

And just because I feel bad for not being able to fit him in on my first Top 5 post, I'm posting a second photo of him here. Chris, don't say I never did anything for you, honey.

Holy crap.

Taylor Hicks is SO winning American Idol. He was consistently good in his performances last night, whereas Kat only shone in "Over The Rainbow."

I have a $5 bet with my boss that Taylor wins. He thinks Katharine will win strictly because she's a pretty girl. I think he underestimates America. Fantasia was not your typical pretty girl. Ruben was not very attractive. Neither was Clay.

Neither Kat nor Taylor would have been my pick for AI this season, but of the two, I think Taylor is a more interesting and seasoned performer. Kat can definitely sing, but only in a very stylized way.

And what the hell was up with their two singles? Yikes. Whoever dreamed up those songs (lyrics AND melody) should be shot. But maybe I'm expecting too much, because I thought last season's "Inside Your Heaven" was horrifying, too. Katharine was ALL over the place trying to sing that awful "My Destiny" song. And "Do I Make You Proud?" Christ. Totally lame, but I thought Taylor did better with it than Kat did with her song. However, if I never hear either of those again, it will be too soon. Ugh.

Well, how's that for a yooooge shock last night on AI? I figured that Kat was definitely going home, based on the atrocious caterwauling that was her singing on Tuesday night.

Poor Chris. Everybody thought he was the Chosen One. I think even HE thought so, based on his expression when Ryan informed him he would be going home. Actually, I don't feel too bad for him. He will surely land a record deal and make beaucoup bucks in the near future. He's totally radio-ready.

Either Katharine or Taylor will win. Please let it be Katharine! Taylor's good, but watching him tic out when he sings is just too damn distracting. Of course, if I were wrong and Elliott won, I would squeal like a schoolgirl! But his winning is not likely.

Of course, I never have voted during any season of AI, so my opinion really doesn't count, now does it?

I'm back, and I finally feel somewhat normal again. For two straight weeks after my grandpa died, I felt like I was in a total fog. I had the worst insomnia EVER, and sleeping is the one thing I truly excel at doing. It took me hours to fall asleep, and when I finally did, I was waking up intermittently throughout the night. I'm still having a bit of trouble sleeping, but not as much as before. But for the most part, it seems I've gotten back into my usual routine...going to the gym, cooking real meals, cleaning up the house, doing yardwork. Thankfully.

The weekend was mostly a washout, due to all the rain we got, so I did some housework on Saturday. Then I got sucked into watching VH-1's 100 Greatest Teen Stars. Seeing all those poster boys from Tiger Beat reminded me how completely boy-crazy I was, even as a little girl. Come to think of it, I'm still kinda boy-crazy. I just love men! I can't relate to women who stop looking at other men as soon as they're married, or even in a relationship. How is that possible? I am constantly checking guys out. And not just sexually--though I regularly encounter one or two guys I could imagine fucking within an inch of their lives, if I and/or they weren't married or otherwise attached. I can usually see at least a few redeeming qualities in most men, even those who wouldn't be considered conventionally attractive--especially if a guy can make me laugh. A guy with a great sense of humor is so freaking hot to me...it almost trumps any other quality or personality trait, in my eyes. I guess I just appreciate the differences between men and women.

Anyway, back on track. Yesterday, I took my mom out shopping for the afternoon. My biggest purchase was a post hole digger from Home Depot, woohoo. Then I came home and mowed the lawn, did some laundry, hung some pictures, and installed the new cellular shade I'd bought for our bathroom window.

Next weekend: going to a bridal shower in upstate NY. Good times, y'all.

Elliott, Elliott, Elliott. If he were to cut an album, I would most definitely buy it. I just adore his voice. I hope he wins, but I doubt he will. Not only do I love his voice, but he seems so down to earth and cute. Squee!

Bucky: time to go home. I actually made Brian spew beer out of his nose last night during Bucky's song, when I remarked, "He looks just like Rusty Griswold!"

Kelly: I still stand by my original comment on TKW's blog that the people who vote for Kelly Pickler probably also voted for Dubya. Yuck.

Chris: no doubt you can sing, dude, but you must stop Creed-ifying everything.

Mandisa: she has the prettiest face. She can also sing, but I don't see her going to the top 4.

Paris: another one who definitely has talent, but with her family connections, does she really need to be on this show? Couldn't she just get a recording contract another way?

Ace: slurp. That is all.

Taylor: the dark horse of this season. A lot of people I talk to have love for this guy. I think you either love him or hate him. He's got an interesting voice, and is a good performer, but needs to tone down the tics.

Lisa: talented, but just too young for this competition.

Who I am missing? Anyone I overlooked is too forgettable to have gotten this far.

Besides Angelina Jolie, my biggest girlcrush has to be this lady:

That is my favorite female chef from the Food Network, Giada de Laurentiis. She's hot, she seems fun, and she can seriously cook. What more could you want? Plus, she's not all coked-up like Rachael Ray.

(Aside: I used to adore Rachael Ray, but I can hardly stand to watch her anymore. First of all, she's EVERYWHERE, which is annoying. Major media overload. Second, she is most definitely riding the white horse, if you catch my drift. It'll be fun to watch her crash and burn, though. And that time will come eventually, trust me.)

Anyway, back to Giada. Every recipe I've tried from her first cookbook, Everyday Italian, has been a success. I cannot say that about any other cookbook that I own.

Her new book is coming out in April, and here's the great part: I'm going to meet her!

She'll be in the area for a book signing on April 6. I'm actually taking a half-day from work just to go see her speak and have her sign my cookbooks. I may also bring a camera and have a photo taken with her, but I'm a little scared...she's GORGEOUS and I'm not so sure I want to be photographed right next to her.

Yes, I am a loser.

I'm pressed for time this morning, so my observations about last night's show will be short and sweet:

Best Performance: tied between Taylor Hicks and Paris Bennett. Taylor did so well last night, but I still find myself distracted by all his tics and twitches. It's like watching someone having a grand mal seizure when this guy sings. Paris is a natural performer who makes it all seem effortless. But do we need another Fantasia? Hmmm.

Worst Performance: Kelly Pickler. She looked great but her song nearly put me to sleep. And she sounded way too country. No soul at all.

Simon must really have something against Kevin "Chicken Little" Covais, and I don't understand why. The kid's a decent singer, and he's only 16 for god's sake. I thought he kept up really well when he did "Part Time Lover," which is an EXTREMELY difficult song to sing. But Simon is out to get him. He'll been gone soon enough, though. He's good, but not good enough to last much longer.

Ace. Eek....not good last night. And he needs to brush his hair. Looked like he just rolled out of bed and onto the stage, and NOT in a good way.

I know that everyone drooled over Mandisa's performance, but it left me cold. I think it's because I expect more from her, since it's obvious she can really sing. In my opinion, not her best night.

Elliott sounded OK, but it was not his best performance ever. Still, I just love his voice. He's probably the only one of the twelve whose album I'd buy, if he were to make one.

Lisa Tucker, my early favorite, also sounded just OK.

Melissa "Butterface" McGhee: Even my husband, who doesn't usually comment on people's appearances, turned to me during her song and said, "Man, her face looks BEAT." Hee. She sang "Lately," one of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs, and completely fucked it up. She forgot the lyrics at least twice during the song. I felt a little embarrassed for her.

Bucky looked like he had a nice hot oil treatment for his hair, finally! I found myself feeling a twinge of envy over his shiny, wavy locks. He did a better job than I thought he would with "Superstitious." Still, I don't see him going much farther.

Chris Daughtry is HOT, yo. He covered the Chili Peppers' cover of "Higher Ground" and sounded great! I did think his voice was drowned out a bit by the guitar, though. He's another one who is completely comfortable onstage. He'll definitely be in the final four.

Katharine McPhee: she's beautiful and she can sing...she was awesome last night. But that dress she wore brought her dangerously close to "Wardrobe Malfunction" territory. Anyway, I think she's the most attractive of the female contestants. Plus, her mother's a voice teacher, so KM's probably been singing before she could speak.

Either Kelly or Melissa will be going home tonight. Frankly, Melissa is a teensy, tiny bit more talented, despite the fact that she forgot the lyrics to her song. Because of that, I hope that Kelly is the one who gets the boot. But Kelly probably gets a lot of Southern votes. So we'll see.

As for last week's results, I was 50% right. So my predictions are 6 for 8 so far.

I was so distracted thinking about Flava Flav tonguing all those women while wearing that stupid horned helmet that I totally forgot that tonight is the Results Show for AI.

Here are the people I think will be packing their bags tonight:

Melissa McGhee. She claimed to have won beauty pageants, but I'd like to know ON WHAT PLANET that would have happened. The original Butterface (everything else looks good BUT HER FACE).

Kinnik Sky. Whenever I see her, the first thing that pops into my mind is "post-op transvestite." That, and then Austin Powers yelling, "She's a man, baby!" I'm heartless, aren't I?

Kevin Covais. Chicken Little! I actually kind of rooted for him, because his voice is pleasant and he's as cute as a button. But I just don't see him as American Idol material. And he lisps when he sings, which is incredibly irritating.

Will Makar. Who, in my mind, resembles the spawn of Fred Savage from The Wonder Years and Donnie Osmond, if they mated.

So we'll see...
